The Problematic Status of Visual Evidence in Climate Change Campaigning
نویسنده
چکیده
As forms of visual evidence, photographs of melting glaciers function as powerful and persuasive signs of the visible impacts of climate change upon the landscape. Indeed, such photographs have fi gured as vital tools in historical efforts by environmental campaign groups to bring public and political attention to the reality of climate change over the past two decades.1 Since Greenpeace fi rst photographed the crack in the Larsen B ice shelf in Antarctica in 1997, images of melting and retreating glaciers have been used both in campaign group literature as well as reproduced in the popular media as proof of the reality of global warming, and the resultant climate change.2 It would appear, then, that photographs used as a means of documentary evidence function

Climate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence
West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...
متن کاملAssessment of Downscaling Methods in Predicting Climatic Parameters under Climate Change Status: A case study in Ardabil Synoptic Station
Climate change is an unprecedented change are taking place. Changes of meteorological parameters such as precipitation, maximum and minimum temperatures. Since weather forecasting is important for these parameters, in this study, the performance of Statistical Downscaling Model (SDSM and Lars-WG) were used to predict temperature and precipitation and mean of these changes for the periods 2046-2...
متن کاملTrend assessment of climate changes in Khuzestan Province, Iran
In this paper, according to the data of 17 weather stations in Khuzestan during 1951–2012, the trend of climate changes and its severity were evaluated. A consistent correlation was highlighted for trends of De Martonne index as indicator of climate and temperature index in some stations. Based on the results of the temperature analysis, 88.31% of the Province became warmer, 6.3% became colder,...

Without the surrounding environment of a site, architecture loses its full meaning. In the evolutionof the design process, a site's environment should be understood as the integral factor within which a designed productor artifact is expected to perform. The environment is not of secondary priority. Every building is intertwined with itscontext; context being its physical, visual and ecological...
متن کاملAssessment of climatic parameters caused by climate change: A case study Kan Basin
Water resources restrictions along with uneven distribution of water in different parts of Iran, have caused Iran to be highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. During recent years, IPCC has developed GHG emission scenarios which can be used with AOGCMs to predict climatic status for the future. Herein this research, Hadcm3 was used to simulate climatic parameters for three different period...
